Another tape from unholydeath and continues in the similar vein to the previous post, only more extreme and blatantly nsbm, here's the first Der Stürmer demo. Taking their name (and logo) from Julius Streicher's propaganda tabloid and using very direct images and lyrics (especially in the earlier releases) there's nothing subtle about these Greeks. I wasn't sent cover scans this time as the covers were horrible quality pixel-shit not worth scanning like ud put it, but I borrowed images uploaded to Discogs to satisfy the curious. So thanks to unholydeath for his rip again!

Musicwise this is probably the most aggressive and hateful of their drummachine-era recordings. Not much to really say, in your face-assault and most likely not for everyone reading the blog. You probably know if you want this or not. Note that these tracks were also released as a split with Galgenberg so you'd probably want to get that one instead... or maybe not, now that I checked this rip sounds better.

  1. I usually avoid NSBM due to the politics, but I've liked what I've heard from Der Sturmer, including now this. The four tracks are a bit samey, but it's well executed to my ear. No pun intended.

Yeah, it's quite intense stuff - have to agree the steady mechanical percussion makes them sound samey like you say. Vocals and strings make a difference. I could also manage without the cliche samples, but in the end they're definitely among the better bunch in this field.

I still wish they'd gone on with Lamentation/Nachkaiser for a bit longer, as long as it wouldn't have turned into marching songs/anthem pastisses or such.

Have you tried the other NS-oriented thingies posted here? I'd recommend at least Ecclesia Satani, Hödur and The Helheim Society from the older ones but I need to reupload 'em first.

  3. No need to reupload...I've tasted those indeed. The Hodur and Helheim Society stand out for me but I don't have as strong a recollection of the Ecclesia Satani. I'll go have a re-listen.

Lebensborn 88 was another NSBM I've liked the music from, though I don't believe that was posted at the Coven.

And yes the sampling is overdone on this Der Sturmer demo.

  4. Probably one of the more clichéd releases that were done back then, and the use of samples etc was incredibly in fashion, albeit extremely banal even at that stage (read even the White Power Rock scene wasn't using them at this time). I think that I reviewed a handful of "NS" bands back around the same period that this was released, every single one using samples of the same shit just to prove how "true" they were hahaha. These guys also did the "Dark Imperium" 'zine - but pretty much a low end 'zine, with awful "NS 101" style "articles" about as deep and meaningful as a matchbox would be to a swimming pool. The cover for the demo is awful pixellated rubbish, which surprised me, because it's pro-printed as well. Pretty sure that it came with a lyric sheet too, but I know for one that I didn't keep mine... If you're really in dire need of the cover, let me know...

Yes, have to agree with the samples and no, I don't really need the cover - I'll take ud's and your word for its crappy quality and the pics from Discogs are enough.

I remember seeing flyers for Dark Imperium 'zine, never seen an issue though. Yes, the articles seemed to be very "basic" fare but some interviewees seemed interesting. I suppose the inties weren't a big deal either?

  6. I don't remember the interviews being particularly good, but I'm certain that I've still got the 'zine somewhere in the formidable dungeon "somewhere". I think that there were a lot of "white power" type answers, which I felt was pretty ridiculous, but then again back then you could be a "Nazi" on the most thin ground because of the nature of the trend and its attendant requirements... I think that the Spear of Longinus one was the most interesting, with Camazotz being his usual enigmatic and uncharismatic self.

I'll see if I can dig it out - all these years later I might be totally wrong!

I'm quite certain SOL interview would be the best. I found a flyer for the 2nd issue and it labels the 'zine as "black metal/white power" 'zine and interviewed for that one were Hagall (us), Berzerker, Nåstrond, Xenophobia, Iron Youth & Seth + articles. I'm certain I have somewhere a flyer for the 1st issue too but can't seem to locate that one now.

  8. Yeah the cover is so pixelated and not worth for scanning. Not sure is it the band or the label Demonion Productions to blame for it. From the same label, for example Shatargat demo "Wolfe der Nacht" doesn't have pixelated cover, but at least equally bad layout on it.

And then there was releases like the Warloghe 7" with no notable flaws (apart from stupid label statement) on cover.

  9. Augh, easily one of the most overrated NSBM bands ever. All that Greek shit is so fucking lame: no talent, no atmosphere, just hammer away at the drums and loop a handful of riffs over half-gurgled vocals paying no mind to any synchronicity of any combination of any of those elements. Still, the demo is fairly significant in the annals of NS history. As I recall, it was rather hard to come by on blogs for a time as well, though then again this is coming from a guy who hates the band so maybe I'm jsut wishfully thinking.

  10. @unholydeath:

I've the same ones from Daimonion you listed and one or two others, don't remember any of them having equally lousy picture quality but the lay-outs were a bit so and so. Well, it's not really like anyone was expecting glossy pro covers from an ug-label but the basics should still be ok.

It is true that one can name quite a few superior NSBM demos of the same or earlier era at the drop of a hat but there is historical worth like you say. Bear with us, other items will come.
