Sorg - Demo I 1995

Sorg - Demo I 1995 (?)
1) Necronomicon
2) Subtle Punishment
3) Chalice of Sin
4) Initiation
5) Für Dich
6) Chaos

Mediafire / 4shared

Let's stick to Germania a while longer. This is again a collaboration between me and comrade LKS. Well, to be honest LKS did most of the work ripping the tape and scanning the covers, I just divided it into tracks, which was quite a bit of work too! Alright, Sorg of Germany was somewhat a mystery to both of us, despite having access to the covers as they're not very informative. According to another demo, to which we return later, a man who calls himself Astaroth is apparently behind all the music and most likely instrumentation too. Looks like Metal Archives has been updated recently to mark him as the same fellow who handled bass and vocals in Fjell, we speculated this earlier but were not certain. Good to see user Uglur knew this for sure. As you see from the question mark up there the release year is uncertain, '95 is just a guess but could be '94 as well. Please confirm if you know.

Music on this demo is what I suppose should be called ambient black metal as it has enough metal elements on it to merit that sort of a monicker. Pushing it, maybe, but very gently. More like nudging or perhaps poking. Mostly slow tempo and moody material, black metal voices croaking, crooning and occasionally growling over funereal keyboards and strings (sounds like bass to me), plodding percussion, you get the idea. Lofi but clean sound, atmospheric and quite mellow on the slow long opening numbers, gets a bit silly on faster bits like Initiation. Very interesting for sure and I would need the second demo, third one we already have.

  2. Thank you LKS and our host for this curio. Given the confused and vague cover art, perhaps the odd contents are to be expected. I find the latter tracks most appealing, having the benefit of (it appears) a little better production. Track 4 seems to best reflect the potential for what they're aiming for, to my ear. And I agree with Velkaarn the uptempo stuff needs a rethink.

On a couple tracks the vocals sounded like Peter Murphy blew through the control room briefly, ate to his scheduled Bauhaus recording session next door. Not exactly dark, not exactly goth, and certainly as you note not exactly BM. Trying to find it's way but that's what demos are for, isn't it?

I was going to say no, but the name rang bells so I double-checked. And yeah, I've a rip of the EP, apparently of the reissue but there does not seem to be any difference. Wasn't aware it was a side project of Ethereal members, I've their 10". Here's a link I found to the rip I have:

    @kingpossum-sempai:
You're welcome and glad you enjoyed it. I wish I had the second demo, there's quite a... change on the third one so I'd love to hear what happened in between. I'm not posting that one quite yet, must check if I've a chance to find the second first. What do you think, would it be an appropriate time to post something completely different next? Slightly embarassing even.

  8. @Opiekacz:

None of those are familiar to me from the old days as I wasn't much into death metal, melodic or blackened or any blending of, back then except for a few random things. However, most seem to have been ripped and posted around in the past which is the good news for you.

Bad news is that almost all the links are dead. Nathaniel had a live link:
    https://yadi.sk/d/ZpqORxrCcrz69

I've asked people if they could reupload the second Dream demo and Dar Samai so we'll see if it happens.

The demos by Element don't seem to be found presently.

  9. That I was afraid,anyway thanks for Nathaniel :)

  10. @Opiekacz:

Well, never say die, perhaps someone will be reuploading the Dream II & Dar Semai rips. Not yet, though, but let's give it a few days. It's summer after all and I think people have other things than just sitting at computer to do! ;)

  11. Ok,Im waiting :)
    ...but I dont want only Element's demos,albums also :D

  12. Did I forget ask about Perpetual Demise (Netherlands) - Arctic (1996)?
impossible, how could this happen? :D

Do You already heard Paria - Surrealist Satanist?
    Amazing vocals and drumms sound.

    VastaaPoista
  13. @Opiekacz:

The album Arctic? That's really easy, album rips are more common y'know. Here's a link I found: https://yadi.sk/d/Xr4TaZY7kWzVm

I recommend for example MetalArea for album rips, even while it's a Russian forum you can manage pretty well with just English. That's the source for that one too.

Nope, not familiar with Paria. The album cover looks really cool though and I see they're on W.T.C. used to order things from there a few times some years ago. I'll give it a listen, thanks for the tip.

  14. Metalarea?90% links are dead :p
Cryptic Tales - VII Dogmata Of Mercy (2008) links are dead
Abyss - Taste the Bitter Vengeance just 192kbps

    You have it?In 320kb?

    VastaaPoista
  15. @Opiekacz:

I've neither. I only have old (90s) stuff from Cryptic Tales and I don't think I've ever heard the Polish Abyss before. Looks like it's melodic death which is not my speciality.

None of them, I don't really pick up new tapes except on whim, usually when drunk at some gig or so. How is that Balberith demo you're selling like, looks interesting.

  24. I dont speak english :D I use google translator

This is a typical metal for this region,a lot of chaos and noise and garage sound
I'm after a few years of Norwegian BM
and now I listen mainly Greek b.metal or from anywhere in the world
provided that it is original and unusual

NORNS - Pazuzu,CH'AHOM - The Raid of the Tzitzimime,AIMA-Aiμα,Angist - Circle of Suffering,Black Hate - Los Tres Mundos etc

Balberith is...typical,perfectly for those who are starting to explore metal music
For experts with many years of experience ;D waste of time

  25. @Opiekacz:

Alright, I see. Thanks for the info, maybe it's not for me either then!
