Thy Serpent - Rehearsal 1992

Thy Serpent - Rehearsal 1992
1)
Untitled I
2) Untitled II
3) Untitled III

Replaced!

Staying in Finland but moving from one Serpent to another and switching genres on the way, here's a quite rare VERY early rehearsal tape from Thy Serpent which I had actually ripped already long time ago but forgotten on my external HD. Well, better a bit later than not at all I guess. I got this one also from Sami sometime in 1995/1996 and these are tracks recorded actually before the band had a name, if I recall correctly. The songs didn't have names either.

Three very short songs here, obviously cruder than the later Thy Serpent material and more black metal (you can hear the occasional Satan and Lucifer and yes there are vocals) yet still there are details already pointing to what direction the music would progress. The sound isn't bad at all and the rip is quite good too. Obvious historical value aside, this is recommendable for people into early Finnish bm scene, Thy Serpent fans and collectors of rehearsal tapes.

UPDATE: I've ripped this again, download replaced with the latest rip. Higher bitrate, generally a little better than the previous version.

Thy Serpent - Into Everlasting Fire demo II 1995

Thy Serpent - Into Everlasting Fire demo II 1995
1)
The Forest of Blåkulla
2) In Blackened Dreams
3) Ode to the Witches (Part I)
4) 24th of August 1628
5) Hear My Darkest Calls
6) Ode to the Witches (Part II)

Replaced!

Here is, as already half-promised, the 2nd Thy Serpent demo. When I finally got this from Sami I thought it was 100% better than the debut demo. As time has passed I'm not too certain of the percentage as the debut sounds now much better than I thought and the drum machine here, somehow combining with the overall sound - as clear as it is - bothers me more than I remembered.

But nevermind my senile ramblings, you know what we have here: antichristian dark metal with synths and continuing on the nordic 2nd wave vein. Clear sound, decent rip by yours truly (even though there was some wear on the tape) and all that jazz.

UPDATE: I've ripped this again, download replaced with the latest rip. Higher bitrate, generally a little better than the previous version.

Thy Serpent - Frozen Memory demo I 1994

Thy Serpent - Frozen Memory demo I 1994
1)
Intro
2) Unknown
3) Frozen Memory
4) The Sky Is Falling
5) Just A Shadow In The Darkness

Reuploaded

I understand this debut demo by Thy Serpent is hardly a rare or uncommon item, but since I recently ripped my tape for listening I decided I might just as well go ahead and upload it too. I'll probably upload demo II later as well. Unless Sami decides to release them on a CD after all ("Lords of Twilight" had re-recorded versions of several demo songs).

It's been a long time from my last listen to this demo and I was surprised to hear it sounded better than in my memories. Dark metal as Sami was keen on calling the music (no Satanic themes) which borrows heavily from the 2nd wave Scandinavian sound... well it is (latter) 2nd wave Nordic bm after all. Sami was also influenced by other bands than our Norwegian friends, like the Czech gods Root. I ordered my copy directly from Sami in 1994 after seeing the name pop up in some flyers and distro lists. It was also among the first demos I ordered directly from the bands. Enough nostalgia, download already.

Another project for today, this time Thy Serpent's Sami Tenetz with his short-lived Voices Of Winds. Synth-based dark music with voices, pretty much in the time-honoured 90's one-man-and-his-synthesizer -vein. Not bad actually, sounds quite gloomy. I can't remember for sure but I think he might've recycled some parts for the 2nd Thy Serpent demo.

How I came across this tape is the usual story: I ordered the 1st Thy Serpent demo from Sami in 1994, we wrote some letters, he recorded some stuff for me (like the 1st version of "In Blackened Dreams" meant for some compilation and later released on "Lords Of Twilight"), introduced me to Root's music - of which I am eternally grateful, thank you Sami, and so on. I don't think he ever "properly" released this demo, I think he just dubbed it to some people. Anyway, here's your chance to hear it.
