We continue the Mediterranean cruise from Italy to Greece and to the obscure black metal band Cracen who are best known for releasing a split 7" with Legion Of Doom on Molon Lave in 1993 as Bestial Wrath. This here is their 1992 demo. Alas, this is a rip of an unknown generation dub but the quality is good even if I say it myself. You notice the track listing above has Threnody of the Dead and Outro separate, but they really blend into each other and should really be a single track so I've added a link to that option too. Other explanation would be that my dub simply is missing an additional outro, but as far as I know it's complete. Feel free to correct me if the assumption is wrong and preferably provide a link if it's so. I would also love a scan of the covers if one can be found!
Thanks to the person who gave me the correct cover art. Jolly good.
UPDATE: Most of the blabbering in the first paragraph is now obsolete as brother Y.Deadness has sent me a rip of his original demo, which also includes scan of the original cover. The tape I ripped was indeed missing the outro so that version was fucked up. Sorry 'bout that. Download this version right now!
Musically this reminds me of other early Greek black metal bands but manages to sound quite unique despite that. There are touches of death metal and other metal genres in the music, but it can be clearly categorized as black metal. One thing that sticks out is the clearly audible bass. Personally I think this is a great demo and recommendable to all old school maniacs and Greek metal connoisseurs.

Hey Veelkaarn! I don't know this band, but your description sounds good. I love Greek black metal bands from the early 90s. Thanks for sharing all these unknown gems!
You're most welcome Misfits, hopefully you enjoyed the demo! I would really like someone to send a link to the cover art but it might even not exist. Can't have everything even in the internet era, can we?
Hails Velkaarn,
Thanks for uploading this one, I own a copy of it aswell, I remember getting from my cousin in Greece, damn those were good times. You made me listen to this again, and boy it brought me some good memories. And I definitely agree with you, you can't really find everything in the net, but the cover art for it does exist. When I have time probably, I'l fix my scanner or just get a new one, and scan it.
Xexanoth.
Hi Xex, good it brought memories to your mind. If you ever get it scanned be sure to let me know!
Haha of course. I'l let you know when I find it and scan it. Btw, just a quick question, might of you heard of the band called "Immemorial Celtic Wind"? Some friend of mine recently asked me if I have any demos from that band but I don't. Might you have? Thanks.
Btw, if you want, check out my new blog. Not so much, but I will be soon uploading some of my tapes I have.
Hails! You've got some really great uploads going on.
Sorry X, I'm not familiar with this band. Quick look at MA made me interested though, so I'll do my best to see if I find it and will certainly let you know!
I'll be sure to check out your blog, will be very interesting to see what you will be uploading!
First of all I would like to thank all of you for your great comments. I'm really surprised to find that after all these years there are people who love th eold death-black underground scene...MY name is Greg and I was the founder of Cracen ,later Bestial Wrath.. I was just searching the internet and I really did't think that there would be anything from our band..I can also scan the demo cover if you like annd the ep with legion of doom also..
Guys you made me happy reminding me of those years
Hails Greg, great to read from you and I'm pleased this brought back some memories! Heh, I've got a copy of the split EP myself so I don't need the scan for that one but I'd be very happy of you can scan the demo covers for me!
By the way, is the outro part of the last song or was my tape missing it?
Here's the cover of that Cracen (pre-Bestial Wrath) demo :
http://www.mediafire.com/?8nb8kdyedrcamjg
The name of the band , that was in use when they released this demo, was Cracen. The same members changed the name to Bestial Wrath straight after this release. Cracen = Bestial Wrath = same members=same band. Just the name they changed.
M.A. is wrong for stating a second demo "The Calling" this doesn't exist as far as I know (Greg can confirm it as well). The only recordings they had as Bestial Wrath was this split with L.O.D. plus an re-recorded version of the same track which was featured on a CD compilation entitled "Mortal Mutation" featuring bands as Phlebotomized, Catacomb (Ita) etc.
Velkaarn hi again..
you are right. We never had a second demo, and the recordings were the ones that you mentioned: The legend (demo), one song for the split( passage through the cicle) with LOD, called Procrustean, which we recorded again for Mortal mutation. After that unfotunatelly we had to split.
Sorry for not sendindg you the scan I promised, due to scaner problems. I'll try to send you our last logo of Bestial Wrath. The one in Mortal Mutation.
Thanks again for your good words my friends.
Greg
@anonymous:
Thank you very much for the cover scan and info. Well it certainly isn't the first time MA has incorrect info (The Calling demo) and sure not the last either.
@Greg:
Thanks for the further info and don't worry about not sending the scan, as you see someone did that.
I'd be curious to hear the version you did for the compilation.
My friend I'll send it to you. Just send me an e-mail address.Check it out nad tell me your opinion.
If you have problem with the file just tell me and I'll send it again.
Greg
@Greg:
Ok that's great! You can send it to velkaarn at hotmail dot com. Thanks in advance!
Here's the anonymous again :)
Link to an old rip from the original tape which I own (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=45EQN45M Cracen demo, including the original cover scan complete, the other one I uploaded was edited because the original version has some errors which couldn't be fixed in 1992 due to lack of technology in those times).
Here's also a link to this re-recorded version of Procrustean track from Mortal Mutation comp '93 http://www.mediafire.com/?a7eakq1guhwo7wa
I could also scan the last logo of B.W. (which is really great) but I would rather wait Greg to do this as my source is from a xeroxed paper so I guess Greg can provide it in better resolution;)
Cheers for your great blog!
PS: And cheers to Greg from a pal from the dark past...\m/
Y. Deadness :)
@Y.Deadness:
Thanks alot for these! Good rip, I shpuld probably replace the download with this one.
Please upload this demo again !!!!!
@anon:
