Convulsion - A Pickled Feast demo 1993
Convulsion (nz) - A Pickled Feast demo 1993
1) Lobotomized Whores
2) Bits of Dog
3) Pickled in Pus
Reuploaded
Another contribution by Fenrirsson, this is a demo from the NZ goregrind/death metal band Convulsion. Ripped from his original copy, the sound is obviously of the underground demo sort but quite good and fitting, slightly murky and heavy. Cover scan enclosed.
Even if this is goregrind/death metal, don't expect all-out blasting, there is a good share of slow, heavy, ponderous mauling on display here. Especially the first track is more like Visecral Evisceration than Dead Infection. Pace picks up on the second track but it's still more midtempo than anything which was a pleasant surprise for me on the first listen. There's some dual vocals thrown in for good effect as well and I'm actually reminded of Germany's Mangled Torsos on their debut "Drawings of the Dead" even though it's a later release. Last track continues pretty much where second left off, with a slightly briskier pace. I like this. Recommended for people into heavy and cavernous, murky death metal with a vile atmosphere.
UPDATE: Well, to prove even us ghoulish figures at AC are human it appears the original upload was not correct and tracks 2 & 3 were switched around. Oops. No excuses, just download it again, it's corrected now.

Visceral Evisceration? Mangled Torsos? I need to download this! Thanks Velkarn and Fenrirsson for it, and thanks Velkarn for all the great uploads. Have a great 2012!
@Misfits:
Hope you like it, not sure if my description is a little bit misleading - it might reflect more on my relatively shallow death metal listening habits than actual semblance! Anyways, have a great 2012 as well!
Remember to check out Indulgence also, which was done by Karl (guitar/vocals) which is in more of a death/doom vein (main influences were dISEMBOWELMENT/Thergothon on appearance). The bassist Chris is still around in various things nowadays, so check out: http://subcide-webzine.blogspot.com/
- Fenrirsson
Thanks for this one to Fernrirsson and Velkaarn!! Been' wanting to hear this one for ages, since i'm a sucker for all things old school!! Wish you all the best for 2012 Velkaarn! And lets hope 2012 doesn't go out with a big bang, like all the ancients predicted!!
@FNRSSN:
Going to do that one next!
@grinfreak:
You're welcome and like said, await next Indulgence! Have a grand 2012 as well and I doubt the end will come yet.
Tracks 2 and 3 have been mistakenly transposed.
@anonymous:
Eh, please elaborate? The rip was made by Fenrirsson from his original copy so I do not think he'd mess up.
Yeah that previous comment is right, tracks two and three are round the wrong way. What is labelled 'pickled in pus' is actually 'bits of dog' and 'pickled in pus' is labelled 'bits of dog'. Swap the file names and tags for those two tracks and it'll be all good. Just checked it against my original tape I still have :)
Great seeing these old demos up on a blog, hope there's more Christchurch demos from that era to come, there were some great bands that got tapes out from back then. made my day, will keep checking back in case there is!
The track title listing is correct:
1. Lobotomized Whores
2. Bits of Dog
3. Pickled in Pus
However, the second track is mistakenly labelled as "Bits of Dog", but is actually the music of "Pickled in Pus". And vice-versa for third track.
I personally met the guitarist in '94 and traded for the demo. I know the songs well - tape's been thrashed hard.
@Various:
Crap! Fixed now, thank you for the info, these things happen! Sorry about the trouble, I'll fix the text ASAP as well!
Keep up the great work! I'm going to forward the link to this to a couple of people I know here in Christchurch who won't have heard this demo in years!
@stephen:
I trust you got the fixed version! And don't forget the Indulgence demo either, all courtesy of Vanargandr's FRNRSSN!
Yeah I got the Indulgence demo too, I used to have that tape too back in the day and remember loving it. It's been years though ha.
This is a compilation tape from around the same time as those demos with New Zealand bands on it. There's a Convulsion track on it. There's no cover scan as I lost the cover long ago but the tape survived OK. Distribute widely :) http://www.mediafire.com/?wx32s5gbc8xmsqg
@stephen:
Many thanks for the compilation, I'll check it out once I've slept my head clear of the vodka and have done my shift! I'll upload it here later then.
I will be ripping a few other Christchurch bands over the next little while, but time is holding at present. This will include:
Eviscerate - live and rehearsal 1992
Molested Entrails - Advance Demo 1994 (with unreleased tracks)
Demise - Demise
Human - Organ Splatters
Sinistrous Diabolus - Demo
Kris (from Sinistrous Diabolus) has OK'd the rip of the demo, which is still a fucking classic cult piece, just waiting to hear back about the mix...
Of course, that being said, Velkaarn will be the one that decides if he wishes to feature these or not!
- F
@F:
I believe I will feature them, thank you in advance!
Hey there, Thanks for posting this demo. I played bass on "Convulsion - A Pickled Feast".

I played Bass in Meat Yard (a long with a number of non death metal bands) after Convulsion.

@Chris Rigby:
Hello and thanks for your comment & link to the demo, I'm downloading it as I type so you may remove it if you wish. I'll have a listen and upload it to my mediafire account soonish, contributions are always appreciated!
@stephen:
Appreciated the tape much but seems like it's missing the name of the last artist, do you have it?
Just heads up that Vault of Dried Bones have reissued this with additional rehearsal tracks. They have also up out a limited T-shirt: http://vaultofdriedbones.com/shop/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&zenid=299cd26bcc98adcceef7b9cd0425b81e&keyword=convulsion
@Chris:
Thanks for the heads up, it's always good to see people giving due respects to old stuff.
