Raven (Finland) - Rehearsal 1995
Raven (fin) - Rehearsal I 1995
1) Untitled
2) Calls in the Cold Winternight
Reuploaded
Spring time makes me lazy and sluggish, so excuse me for not feeling like writing much today. What better to go with that feeling than some slow and heavy music? And that's exactly what Finland's Raven offers. This here is an early instrumental rehearsal tape recorded some time in 1995 and spread around to some of the band's contacts. No cover, obviously, for this one.
Much of what I wrote back here applies to this two song rehearsal as well, but the sound is way better than I remembered... though I'm pretty sure I have another rehearsal tape somewhere so perhaps that one had worse sound? I think brother Grev has these rehearsals too so I guess I'll check with him. Mind you, this is a rehearsal recording still so it might sound quite rough to the casual listener. The first track was untitled at the time of the recording and I can't remember now what it ended up being called... but this way I'm staying loyal to the tracklisting, right? I find myself enjoying the recording, nevermind how unfinished, unpolished, rough and repetitive it may be. Recommended for fans of Raven/Shape Of Despair, funeral doom enthusiasts in general and others who want to listen to slow, gloomy and stripped down musick.

Salutem!
I have another rehearsal tape from Raven. It has 2 songs (Shadows Beyond a Stone &
Joining the Gathering of a New Kingdom) and it's also instrumental.
This is the first rehearsal tape from the band.
Also there's "Alone in the mist" single rehearsal track (playing time almost 12 minutes), but If I'll remember right, it has released somewhere? (like compilation tape, etc.?)
GREV
@Grev:
Hails!
Yeah I recalled you had some more... was Raven featured in "Thousand Lakes" compilation? I remember the flyer saying some of the material was unreleased so that might be one place?
I think I'm going to pester you with something soon again. ;)
I think that was "The Eerie Sampler" in 1997/98?
"Thousand lakes" tape was released earlier in 1995 if I'll remember right. I have both compilations, but I'm too lazy to find out ;)
...And send some requests if you need something from my archives
@Grev:
The Eerie Sampler features the promo 1998, "Thousand Lakes" I don't have myself and can't be arsed to dig out the flyer either right now. :) So we'll get back to this when either of us happens to run into item discussed. I'll send requests, worry not!
Well, guess what? I'll remember that "The Eerie sampler" contains promo, like you said, but too late... :(
Well, heard you soon brother! and have a great pääsiäinen
Thanks, like the new post says going to go grab some beer and storm off to meet an associate in order to prepare for the gig later!
Hails! Can't get enough of them. Please uncover anything left by this unknown funeral doom band.
@VotE:
Hails, worry not we'll uncover the rest of the ruins buried by time and dust eventually.
Wait, there's more of them?! Seriously I love this Raven stuff as much or more than Shape of Despair. I only knew about the demos until now. Another reason why I love your blog.
@pagan:
Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the tape. I'll eventually get the rehearsal Grev mentioned from him but knowing our sluggish pace it might be around summer or so. However, coming certainly.
Hey, sorry to make a more mundane request, but you keep referencing this "Eerie Sampler" CD. I can't find that anywhere and download links are either dead or lead to spam sites. Do you happen to have it and if so, could you post it? I know you mostly post tape rips, I have to ask anyway because these obscure Finnish bands appeal to my tastes :)
Thanks for your work!
@pagan:
I do have it, but really if you look at the content most of the material has been released in alternative forms or is available. I think. Though being long sold out I suppose I could rip and post it.
It seems this one is no longer available on D-Files, may you please re-upload it?
@anon:
D-files is a pretty shitty service where this keeps happening. I've reupped it at mediafire now.
