I thought it'd be about time I post a 'zine scan again. This one is from Malaysia, the second issue of Blokong 'zine made by a guy called Azmie and his friends. You might be surprised, but this is actually one of my fave 'zines ever. Part of that is obviously nostalgic value but I genuinely enjoy the content too, there's an interesting and global selection of bands (well, some of them are featured in a ton of zines I admit) instead of the usual Norwegian/Swedish split or all-domestic selection and it looks and feels like an underground 'zine should. The english is ok, many of the bands gave good answers to the interviews (which actually have some pretty original questions too - oh, and Gorgoroth didn't give good answers, surprise surprise) and first and foremost there's real spirit and dedication to this, none of that pretentiousness that plagued many of the later 'zines. Xeroxed the way it should be and with a primitive but functional lay-out. I would be very interested to see the first issue and I don't know if they made any more after this one but I'd love to read them too so get in touch if you have them or happen to be one of the editors. Recommended.

PS: I'd be very interested also in hearing the Danish project The Dark Funeral interviewed here. They refer to it as darkwave, could be black ambient or dungeon synth. Two demos out, "The Awakening" and "In Thy Forest..." Also the other projects, if they actually recorded anything: Trionses, black/doom with the Denial Of God brothers and Der Freitod, darkwave with Ustu of DOG. If you have anything of these get in touch!

Uuuhhh - this one is a real rare gem. All the hails to Mr. Velkaarn for scanning this impossible to find scripture.

I used to have this zine back in the day. A great read indeed. Definitely one of the better mags of early 90-ies.

I remember seeing a flyer for issue 3 of Blokong, but whether the print has ever materialized is something I do not know. Worth investigating.

PS Velkaarn - my sister whispers your name )))

@Kurgan:

You've also had this one? Wow, that's surprising! I'd like to see the first issue too, though the main editor did that one by himself. It's good to know there were at least flyers for issue 3, maybe it was released too. Let's cross our fingers!

Speaking of your sister, I scanned a few small zines and a newsletter at work the other night. :p

I have one of the Danish Dark Funeral demos. Keeping in mind that it's over 15 years since I last heard it - I'm certain that it was just really awful "casio keyboard" stuff. Should I still drag it out and send it to you with all that other material?

Be blessed Sir! My sister is ecstatic...

Indeed, I used to possess this very issue in the late nineties or so. Had a lot of great moments with it. I later traded it for the first issue of Polish "Dark Blaze" zine, which, in turn, has been lost during the years.

I would also be interested to see issues 1 and 3 (if it ever assumed the physical shape) but I doubt they are traceable though.

@Fenrirsson:

Yes please. I'm morbidly curious and I was pretty sure it'd be one-man-and-his-casio-in-the-forest stuff. If you find it I can have peace from this!

Mr. Velkaarn, Thank you very much for all the zines' scans that you share with us. Some of them are really hard to find and I am grateful to you for the great job you do and for all your efforts.

It would be really good if you could find the scans of the "Soluzen" zine #4. I think it is a really interesting issue.
I have seen that somebody called "s.charlach" posted this scans on the Nuclear War Now forum (here http://www.nwnprod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17506&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120&sid=b46465376a4b8f0bc2b6c3317327550c) , but the download is no more available... I hope you can find it in some way. :) Thank you again.

Hmm, you're right it looks pretty interesting. Too bad I don't read forums and don't have those scans. Perhaps one of my readers might have snatched that while it was available, I'll ask Kurgan.

Would be interested in that Moondance issue they had there too.

Kurgan kirjoitti...

Gentlemen!

I did not save the scan of that Soluzen zine. However, knowing s.charlach, I believe he would re-upload the scan upon request(s). In case you are registered at NWN forum, just drop him a private message. In my experience, he is a quick responder and tries to be as helpful as he can.

In case you are not registered, Mr. Velkaarn can drop me an e-mail and I shall share the contact info of s.charlach.

Cheers.

Yeah, I don't read forums too and I don't have any profile on these sites, so I am not able to contact someone of that users who possess the scans.

I am also interested on the "Moondance" issue.. so it would be very good to have them here on your blog, if Kurgan have them..

Let's see ;) Thank you again!

@Kurgan:

Thanks for your comment, not registered so I'll do as you suggest.

@M.Natt:

As you see from above, no score but I'll see if that person will send them.

Thank you very much to both Velkaarn and Kurgan for the willingness and kindness.
