Sunday chill out strikes back with a laidback yet very determined vengeance! Yeah, it is non-metal again and an item contributed to me already in '15, thanks to the sender you know who you are! I don't think we've ever featured a CMI artist before (countless Mortiis 'zine appearances do not count) despite the label's huge importance especially in the 90's. This is Ordo Equilibrio of Sweden, later known as Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, formed by Tomas Pettersson of Archon Satani fame with his then-girlfriend back in '93. I liked the first album and the "I4I" EP quite a bit but was somehow slightly dissappointed in the second album and even though I still enjoyed it I lost interest after that and haven't really revisited them either. Wonder if I should? I'll ponder that later, what we have here is a live recording of their gig at TVO in Turku, organized by Kuolleen musiikin yhdistys aka KMY. KLV (one more three letter abbreviation and I start screaming) performed also but alas we do not have their part.

Eight songs for 38 minutes so it is not a very long gig but should be complete. Unless the person who recorded this took off and missed an encore or something. Don't believe that, I think I've seen this show mentioned or reviewed somewhere back in... another time and I seem to recall a mention of how short it was. The sound would be good if not for the occasionally amusing (provided you understand Finnish) but mostly just annoying and really distracting babbling of apparently the guy recording this and some oafish mate(s) of his. Oh how I hate it when people have friends when they are supposed to record something! Ordo Equilibrio's performance appears to be rather minimalistic yet ample. This might be a good time to mention they play "apocalyptic folk industrial" as the KMY poster puts it. Or in more words, a mixture of neofolk and martial industrial, some tracks being fully of one sort, others the second and some mix both or divert elsewhere. It's quite easylistening stuff compared to Archon Satani or some other CMI names like say Brighter Death Now or Deutsch Nepal but still too challenging to our audio (well, he could video it for all I know) chronicler's peasant pal. Oh well, if you enjoy Ordo Equilibrio or in general are into CMI bands you might enjoy this live recording provided you can successfully ignore the inane banter. Not understanding the language probably assists in the endeavour.

It was Father's Day today in Finland as well as in several other northern countries and I decided to commemorate it with another big post... actually originally I was going to do a non-metal item but then thought it was high time I'd post this contribution sent last year by brother Grev, who also happens to be a father so merry Father's Day G and thanks! So, certain portion of my readers love Sacrilegeous and I think we already mentioned this compilation in one of the discussions somewhere in the comment sections, note that it actually has no name: Alastaro über alles is just something Grev decided to call it when he sent the lot to me and I kind of went on with it. To the extent of making a phony cover for it. Yes, the "symbols" around Baphomet are this. Sometimes I really spend my time in dumb ways. Right, so it's sort of a bootleg yet kind of semi-official as it is ripped from a CD-R Grev got from master Necrodesecrator when he ordered a copy of the Nordic Landscapes of Hessdalen EP and asked if older material was available. He did not mention when this was and I've forgotten to ask so we remain uncertain until he eventually tells us. Because just asking him would be too simple.

Enough backstory, to the contents. There's a bit over an hour of material, most of time going to M.O.T.U. (21:34) and Sacrilegeous (31:22) parts, while Orvonton and Evil0 both get their roughly six minutes of spotlight and Gothmog the Finnish version represents for 1½ minutes. Not very even division but considering those are his main projects it is to be expected. M.O.T.U. is a mixed bag, starting with an instrumental metal-lish song that wouldn't sound too much out of place on a Sacrilegeous demo, continues with techno-industrial, more almost jazzy and groovy metallic stuff, with and without bizarre robot vox to a schlager classic cover and improvisation. Orvonton starts with an "intro" of static noise, thankfully short, followed by fast and quite harsh (industrial) black metal with obvious and dominant drum machine. It's no Mysticum but interesting nevertheless. Sacrilegeous part here is in the somewhat calmer and more atmospheric vein, with the familiar sound. Mostly instrumental too. Contrary to what one might guess by the song titles, "Blaspherious to Evil" and "Sacrilegeous Suicide" are NOT thinly disguised Deicide covers, first is a synth track and second in the more usual Sacrilegeous metal track style. And so on, you know S. well enough by now. Evil0 is techno/industrial, mostly instrumental if you don't count some quite annoying voice samples. That's enough about that. Gothmog, perhaps surprisingly, is brutal and bestial black metal with unhuman machine drumming and sounds something like Havohej / Profanatica combined with Corneus / Grausamkeit, to make a really crude comparison. Or maybe not. But perhaps that gives some kind of an idea. Recommended obviously to all fans of Necrodesecrator's work as well as those constantly on the look for curiosities of the Finnish underground.

Let's chill out for one last time with Kharadrai, this is the third and final demo from '99, contributed by master Sorvali, just like the previous ones. This one was initially missing the covers so he sent me smallish images as placeholder (the one above is one of these) and then later larger images of the special edition. All included in the download. Thanks again for delivering the complete Kharadrai saga!

Musically this demo continues where we left off with the compilation track Akhomalon I and in general where the music started to progress to on the second demo: a mixture of dark ambient, industrial and neo-classical elements. Actually, Kharadrai would've fit pretty well in the Cold Meat Industry roster of the era. I said this continues where A.I left off but that's misleading as that song was much more active in nature than the first two tracks here, especially the longer Beneath the Core. Akhomalon I (Regression) is a very different thing from the compilation track, much more in line with the more... let's say contemplative mood of this demo. Things do pick up towards the end and more so on the second part, while the third one is longest and combines elements from all parts. All the tracks are instrumental this time around and that's just fine and dandy by me. An enjoyable ending chapter for this thing and obviously recommended if you enjoyed the previous tapes.

Today's quickie might seem like a filler, being a single track released on a compilation back in '99 and yeah, it kind of is, but there's a very good reason for this post. Or at least a pretty good reason? Well, however the jury decides, it's because I'd for once like to post something more or less complete, in chronological order and these contributions of Kharadrai material by master Sorvali allow me the opportunity. Isn't it nice to hear something in appropriate order for change? Also, this track/recording is exclusive to this compilation so it has a place here in that accord too. Please notice the whole compilation is not featured here, only the Kharadrai track! Thank you.

Ok, actually a version of this track also appears on the last demo but I think it's a re-recording or remix or whatever, a different version at the end of the day. It's a four-minute song, rather bombastic ambient/industrial blend of music this time around. Have a listen if you liked the previous Kharadrai recordings and/or enjoy this sort of industrial-tinged stuff. I kind of wish I had the whole compilation, though, this feels a bit lost all by itself.

It's time to post something non-German and non-metal again so I thought I'd resume uploading the Kharadrai demos master Sorvali kindly contributed to the Coven. The first one was posted a few weeks ago here. Scans of the cover are included.

Four tracks this time and one of them (might be) familiar from the Elven Witchcraft compilation so you might have more clear expectations for this one. The music is not as minimalistic and simple as on the previous demo, while that one was pretty much straight ambient this combines industrial, ambient and classical, the combination (according to the artist on Meathooked #2) "exceeding the debut work infinite times". Well, I'm glad he was happy with how this turned out and sure there's a lot more stuff going on but I kinda like the debut more personally. There are some whispering vocals included for brief time on the second track, the one from the compilation, but otherwise it's instrumental. Enough from me, listen to the demo already, I know you're curious.

Here's something for you to chew on a Friday afternoon, another "...and now something completely different" post similar in spirit (and content) to Plastic Sampler here. Though not as gothic and much more electro-industrial (heavy emphasis on electronic). Ripped from a tape (caution!) which was dubbed from CD back in '97 or so, should be good enough quality. Cover images blatantly stolen from Discogs.

This compilation lasts just a bit over an hour which is a pretty heavy enough dose of this material to the uninitiated and probably leaves the cultists asking for more. I suppose I'm personally more in the middle ground here. I'm really, really poor with these subgenres so I don't think I'm going to humiliate myself more than necessary attempting to tell what's what, let's just say this ranges from danceable EBM to spaced-out electronic to cyberpunk electro-industrial to creepy bits. Besides I'm kind of busy today, got places to go and things to do. Recommended for people who liked Plastic Sampler and related posts already, feel adventurous and relatively open-minded or need music for their 90's goth-disco evening.

Let's stick to non-metal sounds. Back to Norway and the probably only release by the industrial project Final Frontier, not to be mixed with the Canadian AOR group, which I'm not sure if it should be called a demo, but since that's what it looks and sounds like, I'm calling it that. I got this tape some months ago, having ordered it out of idle curiousity caused by the affiliation it has to Dunkelheit, Remyl and other 90's Norwegian industrial projects (see Ornament #1 for more about some of them). Cover scan enclosed.

As it is ripped from my probably original tape the sound quality is pretty much as good as it gets. Mind you, it's an old tape, recorded on a four-tracker so the sound is not hifi. Music is industrial and electronic with both slower and slightly faster tempos. The first track sounds like it has excess hiss in the background but that would appear to be part of it. Some voices are included, ranging from spoken parts to actual harsh vocals. It is quite gloomy overall and I seem to be at loss of colourful descriptions here... well, it's not exactly sunny and bright pop music either. I recommend you to give it a shot if you're into industrial, I'm off to buy food.

I haven't posted much non-metal lately so let's do some now, starting with a rather fresh acquaintance from the Czech Republic, yet another project suffering from a bit too simple name shared by many others, Oath. There isn't really much info to share, I bought this on a whim from a seller on Discogs a couple of months ago, it seems to be a self-released tape album, even though a label is printed on the cover. Which is, naturally, scanned and included with the download.

Almost an hour long this certainly is a long play in that sense. All the tracks are quite long, from 6½ minutes to fourteen. As you probably expected, it is dark ambient, this time mixed with industrial elements and despite epic track lenghts remains rather "active" so to say with percussion et al. No voices are used so it's instrumental except for some samples. Overall it brings mind a meshup of various CMI artists and sounds generally bleak and uh, dark. This isn't one of my wordy days I suppose. There are some dungeon synth-like moods and parts too but in general it's more raison d'être than Mortiis. It's a bit longer than necessary but a recommendable listen if you enjoy this sort of music.

Ok, let's do something different again, here is Amon Hen from Hungary and an advance tape/promo they sent around in 1995. This might be a rough mix or something of the cassette EP/MLP of the same name, don't remember for sure and of course I don't have the other tape at hand to compare! Anyways, this tape was released some months before the rather professional looking real thing. Cover scan is included.

So what is the music like? Hard to put to a proper category, for sure. I saw the older tape G.L.A.S.S. being described as avantgarde cyber metal which I suppose wouldn't be too far off the mark as there are metal elements to this, especially the first track. But overall I suppose this is closer to industrial or gothic sound, perhaps EBM even. This is the field of music where I need to tread carefully so I don't think I can pull of very convincing name dropping or comparisons this time around. So we have synths, samples, distorted guitars, spoken voices, effected vocals (robot vocals on track 4!), beats, atmospheric parts and more going on here. It's quite weird, uneven and kind of interesting. I guess I could recommend it to both very open-minded readers and those who enjoyed stuff like Plastic Sampler, Neverwood (either, really) or maybe even Landfill among earlier posts. That is all, next time either metal, ambient or a 'zine... I guess I'll roll the dice to see.

Today's post is another obscure non-metal item contributed by brother Wehrwolf, thank you! Orchestra Infernale was a project by Joe Skullfucker of Corpse Molestation/Bestial Warlust - fame and his girlfriend. This cassette was sent around in limited quantities to labels and such people but wasn't really sold or distributed, which is why it says "unreleased" up there... though it's not really unreleased if it was sent around, is it? Well, let's not go there. No proper cover exists, but the tapes had stickers on them and W provided us with a picture seen above.

Wehrwolf tells me more than ten tracks were actually recorded but only the four here were spread and the third one was also featured on a compilation CD which was released by a Melbourne indie label/record store. The music is, like W described me, Cold Meat Industry type music so it's somewhere between dark ambient and industrial. Some bits are more "active" while others are droning and brooding. Sound is good and the rather short (a bit below 14 minutes) tape leaves me curious to hear more. Shame they never got around to release that album. But I'm going to keep this short, give it a listen if you're into the kinds of music mentioned or an unusually open-minded Bestial Warlust fan.

I think it is time I post some non-metal material again and here's another contribution by brother Wehrwolf, the other project of Mikołaj Żentara from Kriegsmachine and Mgła, Arca Funebris. Ripped from his tape and with a cover scan. Thanks again for the contribution!

Some of you probably remember the other project Leichenhalle by the same gentleman, posted here. Well this one is more of dark ambient/black industrial sort of material, "isolationist black industrial" he refers to it on the cassette inlay. Brooding and dark soundscapes, quite minimalistic and slow, lenghty tracks. It feels more ambient than industrial even though the hum of the industries of inferno is ever present. Sinister, but not for the impatient folks I suppose, worth checking out if you're into dark ambient.

Another contribution today and one that I've already had for a while. More non-metal darkness sent by brother Wehrwolf, this is the 2000 tape album (I presume it's meant to be a full lenght, at least it lasts almost an hour) from Poland's Leichenhalle, a project by Mikołaj Żentara of Kriegsmaschine and Mgła. Has really nothing to do with black metal though. Limited to 100 copies and released only on tape, this is a mixture of power electronics and death industrial. Ripped by Wehrwolf from his tape and a cover scan is included, thank you again W!

If you're not familar with the genres mentioned above I'll just shortly say that it is dark soundscapes of noise, rumbling oppressive masses of sound. Not chaotic but almost devoid of such easy listening elements as percussion, vocals or samples. Quite atmospheric in its own way. There seems to be a certain leaning to this, judging from the track titles, but like said no marching band antics or speech samples here, so it's not martial or suchlike at all. It might be a bit monotonous but I find myself enjoying the sounds on certain moods, like now for example. Would be interesting to hear the other releases too. Definitely not everyones' canister of gas but feel free to try it if you enjoy death industrial, power electronics or even dark ambient.

One non-metal item more and another contribution sent earlier this month by brother Wehrwolf, thank you! This is the probably only demo by Krigstav, an industrial project by Rubeus of Pantheon (+ various other projects) and another person, going under the aliases Genocide and Unknown Soldier. I don't know who the other is and which one R was. A cover scan is enclosed.

Ripped from his own tape, this has a good sound though it could be a touch louder. Obviously adjusting the volume will remedy this unless you already listen to everything at maximum volume, in which case you're probably deaf by now and it doesn't matter. Right, to the music, which I suppose would be simple to call NS industrial. Not of the martial sort, this is more akin to death industrial with dark ambient touches and some noisy parts (very few). If you managed to hear the Hagall tape, quite similar to that. Not as low-fi though. There are some vocals, effected and quite distant almost drowning in the background rumble. They get more dominant on the second track where the noise takes more of a backseat until the near ending when it grows in volume and intensity. The third track, which is the shortest of the lot at a bit over 6 minutes, is the most aggressive in its instrumentation. Overall it's a bit on the minimalistic side but not that repetive or monotonous really nor very harsh or noisy, if not "snap your fingers, tap your feet, feel the beat"-catchy feelgood music either. For people into oppressive and somewhat unpleasant industrial soundscapes.

Continuing with non-metal items, here's more stuff from Poland and something pretty obscure, the first demo of Desolation Zone. DZ started as a project of Krzysztof Włodarski, possibly better known to my readers as Geryon, of Profanum and Witchmaster fame. The music here is some sort of dark ambient/industrial/noise combination, I haven't heard any of the more recent material yet so no comparisons. I got this from a Polish trader comrade, titled "Voice of the Serpent Garden" (which is a better title in my opinion) but the Desolation Zone sources title it as "Sound..." - I wonder if he changed the name afterwards or did my trader have it plain wrong. This was released by The Gathering of Funeral Gods prod. who also released the LSSAH, Alchem and Profanum demos. I believe it was Geryon's own label. No covers and a scan would be very welcome!

Ok so the music here is some sort of industrial and ambient based ...thing. During the early part of demo it seems to be wandering almost aimlessly about but gets more focused by Zone III (assuming I divided the tracks correctly...). So it's a bit chaotic but not "noisy" the way much of the noise genre tends to be. Sound of the tape and dub is pretty good, with some minor tape wear. I'm not really sure what else to say about it, it's definitely not everyday elevator music and definitely not for everyone. I guess the artist wasn't really satisfied with it later himself as the TGoFG newsletter makes a point to say it is no longer available. Well, here it is so judge for yourself.

Ok and this is the previously mentioned GHOUL's ns industrial project - dealing directly with the topics of Aryan and racial things. Non-compromising death industrial sound, apparently rehearsal though I personally I find it hard to tell underground industrial releases from such sound bits. Decent dub. Cover scan is included.

Like I mentioned, I got this dubbed to me while seeking certain Ghoul material and to be honest, it is quite a rough sound for this sort of material. But if you are into it I believe you will find this demo worthwhile. Not what I usually serve but certainly will have its crowd. Take or leave it, it's up to you.

We conclude our American mini-tour to the USA and to something completely different. Again. This time I'm posting the (third?) demo of the US black industrial project Ghoul, not to be mixed with various metal bands of the same name. This is actually almost a request since brother THE DECEASED of Lockjaw was asking about it here. Well, not the same item... I was actually after the same promo myself when I wrote to the band but they didn't spread it anymore so they kindly dubbed me this demo (which was not released yet so it didn't have a cover) and another by their NS-industrial project Hagall - again not to be mixed with for example the Finnish Hagall!

So this is not metal, but harsh and abrasive industrial, reminds me of some material by Brighter Death Now and MZ.412. Topics covered are occult and darkness and so on. As I mentioned I had no cover so I slapped up there a picture of one of the members, quite the black metal look as you can see, reminds me of mid-90's MZ.412 in that way. I'm sure many of you will not enjoy this, but at least you've been warned! Recommended if you are into death industrial, power electronics, ritual ambient etc. stuff. Or morbidly curious!

Something different now, industrial death metal from the States, Landfill has released two demos and two albums. Their mid-career label, the notorious Wild Rags, was supposed to release also a split with Amon Hen but this didn't happen. This item here is the second demo, also released by Wild Rags, which I got from a tape trader of mine in the 90's. Without cover, so a Metal Archives image once again. At least this time it's bearable.

The demo contains almost half an hour of industrial/death metal hybrid moving in mid and slower paces. Not bad at all, leaning maybe more to the industrial end of the sound rather than the death metal, the music does manage to bring about feelings of gloom and alienation. Of course it is quite monotonous at times and some of the parts are not that great, I grow weary of the samples pretty soon, especially on the intro, and the vocals might have a little more variety to them, though I guess the lack of is intentional here. Good sound and as the dub was ok quality and not too advanced generation the rip came out nice. There's some minor tape hissing but if you're a seasoned veteran of this blog you probably expect it to have some. Adds to the listening experience, more authentic cassette feeling etc. Recommended to the more open-minded readers/listeners, not so much to the hardcore death metallers.

Again a different direction, this time I've uploaded the 1995 demo of the Swedish martial neoclassical / industrial legends Puissance, whose members are also familiar (to some) from the black metal bands Octinomos, Parnassus, Worshipper, Dismal and Algaion, the musically and lyrically similar project Arditi as well as contributions of several intros and outros to various artists and compilations. I don't remember which of the 1995 demos was recorded and/or released first, but the cover states this one being created in 1993/1994 and considering the content I'd say this is demo I.

Ripped by yours truly from an original tape this is by sound quality an easy listen - provided you enjoy the type of music presented, obviously! The three tracks here are all quite long and bleak, more minimalistic in impression than later Puissance material. Do not expect vocals or samples or other breaks either. Dark, industrial ambiances.
