We stick to the letter "V" and Finnish black metal for one more post, the other day I was contacted by comrade Drowned of old Lockjaw fame and he sent me this obscure demo. He had ripped the tape at the request of an old band member willing to hear it again and this gives us the opportunity to do so as well. Thanks! No covers, or pretty much anything of the sort and not sure if one exists in the first place. UPDATE: A cover does exist as Drowned was asked if he had a copy. So if anyone reading happens to have it, get in touch (as usual)!

Like Drowned warned me in his email, the sound is very raw due this having been recorded on a 4 tracker in their rehearsal room. It's crude, barbaric, murky and filthy. There is background hissy noise present throughout the rip (coming from trying to clean the sound I suppose) and you can barely tell anything apart. Combined with the sluggish pace of the first proper track the effect is wonderfully demented and at times brings old Beherit and from more recent times Ride For Revenge to mind. I don't know really anything about the band apart from what D mentioned so I can't say if they have recorded anything else than this short (less than nine minutes) outburst of blasphemy but if they have I would be very interested to hear it. I can't really recommend this to all the readers but madmen into brutally crude sounding black metal should brave this. Delightfully horrid!

Sir Velkaarn's description is every word true. The murky "production" actually propels this stuff to my ear. Record it clean and this stuff ain't half as interesting.

Side note, New Englanders into foghorns should dip their toes into this. As should Noise fans whether they have any affinity for Black Metal or note.

Odd, mesmerizing beast on offer here.

Thanks everyone,

@kingpossum:

The odd, bizarre and twisted always capture your attention, huh? Glad you enjoyed the recording like I did!

Thanks for posting this one, Velkaarn. I believe the demo did have a proper cover/layout as the guy who contacted me from the band actually asked if I had a photocopy of it. I'll try to find out some more information from him.

As for the background hiss, believe it or not it was twice as loud before I applied a slight noise reduction filter to the files. Unfortunately the dub I have suffers from extremely low volume levels. I'm glad to hear you guys enjoyed it anyway. I'll email you soon.

Absolutely. I'm always up for straight-ahead BM but it's the wierd stuff that I lean toward most.

Many thanks to you and Drowned for unearthing this Vama Marg thing, it's crazy strange.

@Drowned:

Well, I suppose the cover is beyond recovery but I'll edit the text and add a request for it if anyone would happen to have it! Yeah, don't worry about the noise I can imagine how it was as I've quite a few ones here which are really bad on that department as well as the volume. But gives more atmosphere to it, doesn't it!

Thanks again.

@kp:

You're welcome and check out the second Vornat demo if you haven't yet, it's good. Though pretty straight stuff.

@Drowned,

Yes, the second Vornat is really strong. Very deft drumming that pushes and pulls back when needed. And just the right amount of lo-fi production to my ear. Great stuff.
